• Wilcannia Wedding (print post)

  Last weekend we travelled 800km due north from Melbourne to attend the wedding of Yonki and Patrick in Wilcannia. What a trip!

  For now I’ll just post some pictures, hoping to add more words later. It was a wonderful weekend and a terrific occasion, and adventure in itself just getting there and back.

  Travelling to places we would not have otherwise rushed off to see but returning home richer in life’s experiences for it, as well as having spent a weekend together with so many Buykxs!

  On the way up we were in convoy - Bubble 1, Bubble 2 and Terry’s “new” Peugeot. Hay is halfway between Melbourne and Wilcannia - an even 400km and on the banks of the mighty Murrumbidgee River. A lovely spot to stop, hardly a ute to be seen (they were all in Deniliquin, 125km back up the road for the annual Ute Muster) and the cheapest drinks this side of the Black Stump! With each round you can elect to “Toss the Boss” and toss a coin with the proprieter - if you win the toss the drinks are free! Heads came up for us so Terry’s generosity at the bar cost him very little indeed!

  Heading home again, we stopped in Ivanhoe to shake the dust out of the Bubbles and have a leg stretch (Bubble 1 and Bubble 2 here. The Peugeot went home the long way, via Broken Hill and Mildura):
  

  And in a few weeks we do it all again! Anthony and Millie to tie the knot in Canberra on November 25th 2006!!

  

• Antho and Milly getting married (print post)

  Penny and Lucy have been encouraging me to get onto this site and write something up, so here goes……

  Antho finally popped the question on Christmas Day and so we will be getting married in November, 25th, to be exact, here in Canberra. Today we went off to talk honeymoons with a travel agent, and Borneo it is. Antho would like to climb Mt Kinabalu, but I am trying to remind him it’s a honeymoon, not an adventure trek. Perhaps we can go back for an anniversary and climb that mountain another time.

  Oh, plus we also bought a house and a puppy in November, so it’s all go around here.

  Now I just need to learn how to add photos :)

• Tim and Pennys wedding at Rupertswood (print post)

  The wedding true was in a small Catholic church in a small village. There was no starch in the priest, or in the readings that included the marriage piece from The Prophet.

  The reception was held in Rupertswood, a mansion that could be mistaken for an English stately home. That was the intention to building it and they did a very good job. It is also the original source of the ashes - in 185? Was the cricket match after which the stumps were burned and a pot of ashes given to the English. The site also contains a Catholic boarding school which Robert (brother of Tim) attended for a number of years. He joked that the mashed potatoes and rice pudding stains had been convincingly cleaned off the walls since then. Somehow I don’t think they would have allowed a bunch of schoolboys, however well behaved, to eat in the grand hall we had the wedding breakfast in ;-p

• Pete and Kates Wedding in Melbourne (print post)

  It was a lovely wedding, held in the garden of an old country style house,
  with the sun shining through the flowers and trees. They wrote their own vows.
  Why take off the shelf speeches if you can say what it is your really want and
  mean? The honesty touched everyone if the number of hankies is anything to go
  by.

  After the wedding we mingled on the front gardens while the official photos
  were being taken. I think that Pete’s family was somewhat more over represented
  than Kate’s, or perhaps we were just louder. There is a cousins photo - I counted
  15 direct cousins, and several cousins-in-law. Someone has the same photo but
  with Pete and Kate in front making 16 directs all together.

  The table seating was quite deliberate � the younger generation were at the
  back, furthest from top table, but fortunately right next to the bar. Its not
  often that I praise mass catering, but the meal was interesting and tasty ;-D
  and we finished off with chocolate mud wedding cake ! wow !

  Buykx goodbyes go on for a while. Especially when a pub is discovered with an outside-in-the-sun terrace.

  So Anthony got some beers in..
  

  And we enjoyed them

  Then Anthony got some more…

  

  And all the boys took their clothes off and enjoyed the sun

  And we had to drink some more..

  And then we gradually had to leave and catch trains and buses and planes…or not as the case may be ;-p

  The day after Joanna and Stefs wedding there were a few hangovers. As we gathered our belongings and checked out of the hostel the sun was out and it was set for a record Buykx-goodbye.
