Few things and many things have changed in East Timor since I last wrote in December last year.
The weather is still hot, and the rains have finally arrived, in most of the country at least. The people are still friendly, the chickens still make a lot of noise in the mornings, and I have learnt a little more of the most commonly used language, Tetun. But only a little.

p>Steve Madden)…..Next on the wireless it’s our good friend Frank Buykx, you remember Frank has been walking across America….and uh he started out about four weeks ago I think it was, uh, outside the White House, and he’s going all the way across to the Golden Gate Bridge……and that’s where he’ll end up in about five months from now. Why are we interested? Because Frank comes from Great Yarmouth where he was for a long time a…..a, a travel agent…..and he’s kind of hanging up his travel agency but carrying on with walking about the place, and Frank joins us on the line right now, “Frank”?….. Steve Madden) Now, you know our good friend Frank Buykx, don’t you? You know Frank Buykx only too well by now. Frank is a recently retired Great Yarmouth travel agent, just in case you’ve never met him before, and he did what all the retiring people do, he decided that this wasn’t good enough, he’s not going to sit around in a chair, he has decided to walk across America. Just walk across America, like you do, that’s the whole of America, setting out from The White House lawn and ending up at the Golden Gate Bridge, six months later. He’s been at it now for…..er….I suppose about ten days, something of about that sort of order. He set out the week before this and we catch up with him regularly on a Friday evening and we say “Hi Frank, how are you doing and where are you?” Last week he was in West Virginia, this week, I dunno, he could be anywhere.
