  Steve Madden)…..You know Frank Buykx only too well by now. Frank
  has been walking across mythical America. He set out uuh…..I suppose about nine weeks / ten weeks ago now, I’m losing track, maybe even longer; from, well, the White House lawn pretty much, you know, and he’s heading all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge. He’s going all the way across America. That’s three and a half thousand miles, he’s well into to by now. He…..our interest in this is because he comes from Norfolk. He is a recently retired travel agent and he is an amazing character. He has got to Colorado as far as I know, let’s find out: (to Dad)- Frank, good evening, good afternoon to you,

• Indiana to Kansas (print post)

  Day forty saw me in Brownstown Indiana, a medium size town on my way, with a population of around 3,000 and nothing special to recommend it. Day forty was a Friday and on Fridays I do my call to our regional BBC radio station. It seemed easier to stay in Brownstown to make the call, and I needed a day off.

  I enjoy doing my BBC spot. It helps me look for something positive to talk about. I know of at least 12 people who listen to the program. There may be more. (more…)

  Steve Madden)…..It is exactly, smack on, nine fifteen. It’s BBC radio all across the Eastern Counties, it’s Essex and Suffolk and Norfolk, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire, the three counties: Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire; and you may recall if you were here at exactly this time last week that Frank Buykx, our wandering minstrel from Norfolk has made it to Kansas. He was pretty much in the thick of Kansas last time we spoke to him, let’s find out how he’s doing now; because Frank, just in case you haven’t met him before, is a recently retired travel agent from Norfolk and he has decided, like you do, to walk all across America. So he is walking from, pretty much, the White House lawn all the way to San Francisco to the Golden Gate Bridge. And Kansas of course is still fairly early on in the journey, er, but he’s making good progress. He’s near Dodge City they tell us, and here he is right now: (to Dad) Frank, a very good afternoon to you!

  Louise)…..from Norfolk, and rather than potter about and, you know,
  look after his roses, which er is the sort of traditional image of retiring, he has decided to walk, not just up and down the road but across the whole of the United States. He’s taking six months to do it and I believe he’s starting in Washington and is ending up in San Francisco. So we’ll be catching up with him a little bit later on, just before the end of the program, I think he’s somewhere in Kansas so we’ll be um, meeting up with him a bit later….. (more…)

  Terry Baxter) …..our friend Frank who’s cycling across the United States of America, goodness only knows why, perhaps he’ll fill me in when we join up with him…..
  Terry)……….now every week on Steve’s program he catches up with
  Frank who’s in America at the moment, (I wasn’t even aware of this which is very interesting) and he’s become our regular Friday feature. The Great Yarmouth man who’s walking across America, he’s not on his bike at all, his name is Frank Buykx!
